DON'T MISS OUT ON THE FIRST CONFERENCE OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA!

After 33 years of annual Conferences on the Psychology of the Self, IAPSP is pleased to announce its first conference outside of North America. It will be held in Antalya, Turkey, at the Cornelia Diamond Hotel from October 21- 24, 2010.

The conference, focusing on Self Psychology Across the World in Theory and Practice, will have four major panels organized by the four regions in Europe and Asia where self psychology has thrived. These four regions, moving from east to west, are Israel, Turkey, South Europe, and North Europe.

The conference will open with a Plenary Address delivered by Robert D. Stolorow titled: European Philosophy and Psychoanalysis: A Historical View.

Israel's Panel is titled: Self Psychology: A Transient Paradigm or an Infinite Potentiality; chaired by James Fisch, with an original paper presentation by Ra'anan Kulka, and discussions by Donna Orange and Shlomit Haber- Mosheyov.

Turkey's Panel is titled: The Universal Music of Psychic Interaction, chaired by Serin Oget, with a clinical presentation of an adolescent case by Gover Sunerin, and discussions by Eldad Iddan, Gianni Nebbiosi, and Yavuz Erten.

South Europe's Panel is titled: Empathy, Vulnerability, and Shame: Understanding the Therapeutic Process Today; chaired by Franco Paparo, with a clinical presentation will be made by Paolo Stramba-Badiale, with a discussion by Steven Knoblauch.

North Europe's Panel is titled: Release from Developmental Arrest; chaired by Alan Kindler, with a case study by Ronald Bodansky and discussed by Andrea Harms and Joseph Lichtenberg.

A Final Panel will feature a Roundtable Discussion summing up Self Psychology Across the World, chaired by Martin Grossman, with the discussants representing the four regions along with the United States; including Asher Epstein from Israel; Howard Bacal from the United States; and Cristina Bonucci from Italy. Lucyann Carlton will deliver the closing remarks of the Conference.

Malcolm Owen Slavin will be the Kohut Memorial Lecturer. His paper is titled: Listening to Shahrazad: Can Stories Heal the Self, and if so, How? Slavin's presentation will be discussed by Hazel Ipp and Estelle Shane.

The conference is dedicated to two individuals who have had a unique importance to Self Psychology. It will honor the achievements of Bernard Brandchaft, celebrating his soon-to-be published book, Toward an Emancipatory Psychoanalysis: Brandchaft's Intersubjective Vision, co-authored with Shelley Doctors and Dorienne Sorter. And the Conference will memorialize the sad loss this year of Andrew Morrison, who has contributed so extensively to IAPSP, to self psychology, and to psychoanalysis in general.
